Our Favorite Places to Shop Local for Small Business Saturday

How often do you visit some of the local, small businesses in your neighborhood instead of shopping online or going to the mall? Spending even an extra few dollars at local businesses makes a big difference for business owners and for the community as a whole.
Small businesses are invested in making the community and local economy stronger, but they need our help to succeed. The benefits for shopping locally start at the source and tend to create a ripple effect outwards. And you’ll help build a stronger local economy in exchange for a more personalized shopping experience and better customer service. It’s truly a win-win for consumers and business owners alike!
With Small Business Saturday coming up this November 27, we’re highlighting some of our favorite small businesses and highly encouraging you to shop local in your own community.
Why you should shop local
It helps build a stronger community. When you shop locally, you’re not just supporting a small business: you’re supporting your family, your friends, and your neighbors. The people that own these small businesses are the people you see around town and send holiday cards to. When you purchase from local businesses, it helps the business stay alive and thrive. In turn, these businesses help improve the neighborhood and build a more vibrant community by offering high-quality products and services. Plus, small businesses add character to the local landscape!
It strengthens the local economy. When you put forth an effort to shop locally, you’re strengthening the local economy. With more people shopping around town, small business owners will be able to open new storefronts, expand their product selection, and encourage other businesses to move into town. The money spent at local stores is reinvested into the business itself (for example, to hire staff) and into neighboring businesses, and will ultimately go back into city funds - which revitalizes the community and brings in even more business.
Make memories! How many times have you been wandering through town, only to stop into local shops to enjoy a lazy weekend outside? Checking out small businesses and doing some light window shopping is one way to make amazing memories with family and friends!.
Small businesses will often go out of their way to provide some amazing experiences for the local community to incentivize them to shop. That means wine tastings, product demos, and other special events. These special activities can create wonderful memories with the whole clan, plus, you could score some great deals, too.
Businesses can draw tourism. Have you ever taken a trip and just had to visit the charming, cute local towns? Unique and diverse businesses can really benefit your local community and draw in tourism. How so? Well, local businesses will normally offer products, foods, and services unique to your own area, and these goods and services can attract tourists looking for that special something when they come and visit your town. Even when it’s not prime tourism season, these types of businesses can still draw in visitors from neighboring towns.
Expect a more personal touch . Have you ever walked into a store where everyone knows you by name? There’s something so warm and welcoming about the personal touch. Personalized customer service is much more common with small local businesses than large corporations. Big businesses won’t necessarily ask you about your life and your needs.
When you shop local, and encourage small businesses to thrive, those local business owners can offer personalized customer service and better advice about their products and services. Plus, if a business clerk knows you, they may be able to offer more specific advice and product suggestions.
