The Sweet Tastes of Summer

Food has a way of taking us back to some of our most memorable and nostalgic moments.  Our mom’s chocolate chip cookies, our favorite dinner, or the smell of coffee that reminds us of a café that seems world’s away now. Food awakens our senses and makes us feel whole, which is part of the reason we love food so much. Seasons and the time of year play a strong role in our food journey as well, livening our senses by associating certain foods with a time of year.  Fall brings us to pumpkin everything, while summer offers grilling season and strawberry shortcake.

Regardless of the season, we love options – and our mood, the weather, or occasion, all have influence on whether we want ooey gooey, rich and chocolatey, simple and savory, or a mix of it all.  Whatever you are doing this summer, we have you covered with our go to treats, breads, and pastries to pair every mood and moment you might experience this summer.

Sunshining Days

After a long, cold winter, and an unpredictable New England Spring, there is a lot of excitement for the sunny days of summer, and when it finally arrives, nothing is better. Goodbye to heavy sweaters and clunky boots, and hello to shorts and flip flops.

This type of feeling can only be matched with simple pastries, like our delectable scones and muffins, and petite desserts. All of which will satisfy that craving for something sweet and tasty.  Scones and muffins are a great on the go option and pair wonderfully with iced coffee and our petite desserts suggest a delicate end to any barbecue.

It’s Raining, It’s Pouring

With every beautiful sunny day, there has to be a few rainy ones to offset it, right?  Rain in the Summer is not always a bad thing. It slows us down to build a puzzle or play a board game, and let’s not forget how it cools down a humid day.  A downpour accompanied by thunder and lightning is a staple to summer, and no rain storm is complete without a vibrant rainbow at the finish.

A rain storm in the summer leaves us wanting something that still feels light, but has a bit of cozy mixed in, and for us this is our breakfast coffee cakes.  Our blueberry walnut, berry butter, and cinnamon coffee cakes offer a touch of fruit, and the down-home comfort profile of brown sugar, cinnamon, and walnuts.

Beach Days and Picnics

Visit any New England beach in the summer and you will be lucky to find an open spot for your chair and towel – never mind parking.  After a long winter, we hoard in masses to get outside and soak in some sweet sunshine and Vitamin D.  If you are going on a picnic, long hike, or to a music concert, festival, or your favorite amusement park – we have a snack to take on your summer adventure.  Our buttery, flaky croissants are available plain, or in yummy flavors like almond, chocolate, or fruit.  If that does not draw you in, our savory croissant sandwiches with veggies or meat and cheddar cheese definitely will.

Happy Birthday to You

I once heard someone say summer birthdays are the best birthdays, and I think they were right.  There is something special about enjoying time with the people you love on a summer afternoon or evening celebrating a birthday.  Dinner on the patio, followed by lawn games and music in the backyard. Regardless of the time of year, the one mainstay about birthdays that never will never change is birthday cake and the tradition of blowing out birthday candles to make all your coming year wishes come true.

Whichever way you are celebrating a birthday this season, we can provide you with the perfect cake.  Our signature cakes are available in classic flavors like chocolate, carrot, and classic yellow – as well as delicious summery combinations like strawberries and whipped cream and lemon cream.

Vacations and Staycations

Summer vacations are the best! Visiting the lake, camping in the mountains, or staycationing at home – all equate to fun in the sun. The days are full of swimming, fishing, and boating – and the nights are filled with roasting marshmallows around the campfire for s’mores and old board games.

If your summer vacation is anything like mine, there are friends and family everywhere.  Which means there needs to be a lot of food, and of course, we can help.  Our classic breads make our favorite –French toast, and our sliced white breads are a wonderful compliment to any sandwich. If it is something a little more delightful you desire, our breakfast sandwiches and pastries, cinnamon rolls, and assorted petite desserts will please everyone.

Remember as we head into the dog days of summer, to enjoy the sun kissed moments, lush greenery and gardens, and special times with friends and family.  Enjoy the longer days, warm nights, and unexpected journeys you find along the way.  If you are around the Wellesley, Arlington, Watertown, or Belmont areas, stop in, say hi, and grab a treat.
